11 Best restaurants in Hoi An, Vietnam – Where to eat in Hoi An

Hoi An is a fantastic city to spend some time in, especially if you’re a traveller or digital noamd who appreciates good food. During my stay here, I’ve explored a bunch of cafes and restaurants, that quickly became part of my daily routine.

Here’s my personal list of the best restaurants in Hoi An for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, each offering something unique that you might appreciate as well. Bon Appétit.

Best restaurants in Hoi An: Breakfast cafes

Nourish

Even though I’m not vegetarian, Nourish turned into my usual breakfast spot and is definitely one of the best restaurants in Hoi An for a healthy morning meal.

It offers tasty vegetarian dishes at affordable prices in a cool, industrial setting. There’s even a small coworking area, great for getting a bit of work done in the morning. Plus, every coffee order comes with an extra piece of local chocolate. A small touch I always appreciated.

Good Eats

Good Eats has a welcoming wooden interior and an incredibly friendly staff that made each visit comfortable and enjoyable. They have a nice variety of Western and Vietnamese dishes, all reasonably priced. It quickly became my go-to spot when I wanted a reliable, relaxing meal.

Lagom Bakery

Lagom Bakery is a small and charming cafe designed to resemble a little bookshop. You can even purchase books or freshly baked sourdough bread to take home. The atmosphere is relaxed, attracting people who come to unwind or quietly work for a while. If you’re into peaceful spots with good bread, you’ll love Lagom.

NGHE Rice Paddy Cafe

Located right in the middle of a scenic rice field, NGHE Rice Paddy Cafe offers amazing views and a calming atmosphere. It feels particularly serene during the off-season when it’s quieter and you might even find yourself alone there. It’s also a popular place among local people, which makes this place feel even more authentic. It’s a great spot to slow down and enjoy a quiet moment.

Best restaurants in Hoi An: Lunch and dinner places

Rau Oi Eatery

Again, I’m not either vegan or vegetarian, but Rau Oi quickly became one of my absolute favourites in Hoi An. They make incredible vegan versions of traditional Vietnamese dishes at surprisingly affordable prices. I enjoyed their food so much that my girlfriend and me even joined a cooking class there. Even if you’re not vegan, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Lion’s Room

If you’re craving Italian food, Lion’s Room is the best pasta spot in town, though they don’t serve pizza. It’s slightly pricier compared to other places, but the quality of food makes it totally worth it. The intimate, cozy atmosphere makes it perfect for special occasions or a romantic dinner.

Clay Pot

Clay Pot offers an authentic local dining experience. The owners are incredibly sweet and always remember returning guests. Meals here take a bit longer to prepare, but trust me, they’re worth waiting for, especially their signature clay pot dishes. It’s affordable and ideal for a casual, relaxed dinner.

Ngoi Sushi

Ngoi Sushi was a delightful surprise and turned out to be the best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. Centrally located by the river in the old town, it’s surprisingly affordable and offers several vegetarian sushi options. The friendly staff and great atmosphere make it even better.

Red Dragon

Red Dragon is a casual restaurant popular among both locals and tourists. It’s affordable, and the dishes are consistently tasty. A standout recommendation is their fresh spring rolls paired with their special sesame sauce, absolutely delicious and memorable.

Morning Glory

Morning Glory is a bit more more fancy, making it ideal for special occasions. The food is consistently good, though pricier compared to other local options. My girlfriend and me celebrated Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve here with our friends in 2024, creating some wonderful memories. Definitely a place worth experiencing at least once.

La Riva

La Riva offers another good Italian option. While their pasta isn’t quite on the same level as Lion’s Room (although it’s still good!), their pizza might just be the best in Hoi An. The atmosphere is lively and authentically Italian, perfect for a casual dinner. They even serve complimentary limoncello after your meal, adding a nice finishing touch.
